KEY WORKING SUPPORT SERVICES
A few years ago Seraphim was approached by several Local Authorities asking whether we provide any extra support to tenants in our properties. In response to this, Seraphim developed an independent Key Working Support Service to complement our existing service provision. We believe that this service may become integral in ensuring that all young people placed in our properties receive individual packages of support, which compliment any existing care plans/pathway plans and meet the needs, aspirations and wishes of the young people.
We acknowledge that by definition a young person’s stay with us will be temporary and short term. However, we believe it is imperative to make this experience as stable, productive and as positive as possible. It is our hope that the stability created by our new service developments will enable the longer term, more permanent decisions relating to each young person’s future to now be made on a planned basis fully involving and empowering the young people.
The packages of support can and will be designed in accordance with the young person’s wishes and needs and in accordance with any needs which may have been identified by the ‘referrer’ and or any prior assessments. It is our view, and this is supported by service user feedback, that young people respond differently to their environment and immediate surroundings especially in times of crisis.
The young people placed with us have invariably experienced many previous placements, placement breakdowns, disruptions and/or are in a state of crisis. Therefore, in order to create a stable environment for each young person and empower them to make positive choices, Seraphim, as part of our new support service, will also endeavour to undertake a basic assessment with each young person. This is to ensure that any support which is offered is needed, appropriate, understood and willingly accepted by all parties. The support is provided on an individual one to one basis, which will be negotiated and agreed with the young person and the referrer. We will also operate ‘support surgeries’, that will take place at our properties on set days and times.
This Key Working is carried out by one of our Accommodation Officers. This will be charged in addition to the standard room rate and support currently provided. As with our current service, our aim is to alleviate the stress from you with the knowledge that your tenants have been placed in a safe, comfortable and secure environment where bespoke care is given and led by the tenant’s needs and agreed by you the Placing Authority. Our aim is to stabilise them and prepare them for independent living. If you require this service immediately to either existing tenants or tenants you are looking to place please Contact Us.
In the meantime, when you make new placements our staff will always as whether you wish your tenants to have an assessment and if they require one to one Key Working Support.
